Beds on Sunday have a video of Parvez where he outlines his priorities for serving the people of the Borough of Bedford.  Parvez’s key themes are: keeping Council tax down – reducing waste and cutting costs; striking a fairer balance between the rural and urban parts of our Borough; and, being a listening Mayor responding to the needs and requirements of local residents.  Well worth a look

The people of Bedford Borough have, in Parvez Akhtar, the chance to elect one of our own to provide the new leadership that our Borough needs after the untimely passing of Frank Branston. 

Parvez Akhtar, is the person for the moment, and I am delighted to endorse him wholeheartedly and it is an honour to be campaigning hard for him to win the Mayoralty. 

Parvez’s candidacy transcends party and is every bit as mould-breaking as was Frank Branston’s first election.  He has the independence of thought and willingness to shake up the status quo that Frank was well known for.  He is fresh and new and will bring an energy and vibrancy to the mayoralty that we urgently need. 

We need the energy that Parvez has to get the money we need to complete the bypass.  We need Parvez’s clear and independent thinking to get to the right answer about the future of our schools.

Parvez – together with local MPs Nadine Dorries and Alistair Burt (and hopefully me some day soon) – will be a powerful united voice to speak up for the best interests of the Borough on a national stage.  Fighting for more investment to regenerate our town and to promote the needs of our village and rural residents.  A united team fighting together for our Borough – now that is an exciting prospect!
